The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2017 was revealed the night before Super Bowl 51 in Houston. The new class consists of LaDainian Tomlinson, Terrell Davis, Jason Taylor, Kurt Warner, Morten Andersen, Jerry Jones, and Kenny Easley. This honor is a career milestone and the culmination of hard work and dedication they put into perfecting their craft. Whether it is running, passing, catching, kicking, or owning a team, these guys had a sustained level of elite excellence worth enshrining.
The Selection Committee is made up of 46 people that largely consist of media members. Every team sends a representative to the committee from the local media, 13 at-large delegates, and one representative from the Pro Football Writers Association.
The Cowboys’ owner Jones is the only person inducted that is not a player. Owners and executives can be voted in at any time while players or coaches must be retired for at least five years. Fans have an opportunity to vote for players, which is then narrowed down to 25 semi-finalists.
The enshrinement and ceremony will be held on the first full weekend in August. They will have their face molded and crusted into a look similar to their game face or smile.
In the coming months, the inductees will be interviewed as well as their family on what it means to accomplish such a feat. In addition, they will be asked what it means to them. Finally, list people that have meant the most to them along the way as well as tough times they had to overcome.
