Players From the NFLPA Bowl Invited to the NFL Combine

The 2014 NFL Scouting Combine will includes many players from the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Pro Player Insiders brought you coverage of the Collegiate Bowl and is live at the NFL Combine.  Here’s some of the NFL hopefuls we spent time with at the Bowl game and will be following this weekend as well:

QB Connor Shaw, South Carolina

Shaw was a destructive quarterback when on the move. His head coach Steve Spurrier compared him to Russell Wilson because of his leadership qualities and winning mentality. “He became a starter three years ago, he’s been the quarterback on all three of these 11-win seasons,” Spurrier said. “Connor’s just a winner. He’s a lot like Russell Wilson. He takes care of the ball, doesn’t do stupid stuff, doesn’t take careless sacks, he can throw it away, and he’s really a good passer.”

QB Dustin Vaughan, West Texas A&M

Vaughan passes the eyeball test at 6-5 232 pounds. Scouts like his frame and they like his big arm even more. He was brought into the combine to be a throwing quarterback but he is likely to impress some personnel people this week.

FB J.C. Copeland, LSU

Copeland had two touchdowns in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and he was named the game’s MVP. At 6-1 270 pounds he is a load to bring down in short yardage situations. He is likely to get the opportunity to lead the way for some fortunate running back in the NFL.

OC Jonotthan Harrison, Florida

Harrison will continue the Florida Gators graduation of centers into the NFL. He follows in the steps of the Pouncey brothers. Harrison can also play guard which will be valuable because teams in the NFL really like versatile, swing offensive linemen.

OT Cornelius Lucas, Kansas St

This is about as big as they come when you’re looking at prospects. Lucas is a massive 6-9 328 pounds. He was a major presence in the rushing offense for Kansas State.

OC Matt Paradis, Boise St

Paradis is said to be a very gritty player that may not excel in drills but when the lights come on it’s a different story. NFL.com had this to say in their scouting report: “Paradis is a stoutly built, intelligent, hard-nosed overachiever who will make it difficult for coaches to cut him.”

WR Isiah Burse, Fresno St

Burse was selected as an Honorable Mention All-Mountain West Conference for the 2013 season. He was a part of a high scoring offense led by Derek Carr. His role in the NFL will likely be as a slot receiver.

WR Albert  Wilson,Georgia St

Wilson is an explosive receiver with break away speed. He considered declaring for the draft last year. His elite speed will be very impressive to scouts at the combine. That speed is backed up by his eye popping 16.6 yards per catch including a 75 yard reception.

DE Kasim Edebali, Boston College

Edebali is known for his burst off of the line and his ability to anticipate the snap count. Watch how he times in the 10 yard split in the forty yard dash. He is another one of those tweeners at defensive end/outside linebacker. He will find a home in a 3-4 defense and be a situational pass rusher.

DE Howard Jones, Shepherd

Jones was nominated and was a finalists for the Cliff Harris Award as the best small-college defensive player. He is projected to be an outside linebacker in the NFL. A team that runs the Tampa 2 defense will be able to utilize him as a run and hit kind of linebacker in their scheme. Jones had 12.5 tackles for a loss and eight sacks last year.

DL Khyri Thornton,Southern Miss

Thornton was one of the most impressive defensive lineman at the Collegiate Bowl. Scouts liked his ability to use his hands and his swim move to beat offensive lineman.  Some even felt that he was the most impressive prospect overall at the Collegiate Bowl.

LB Jeremiah George, Iowa State

George was named to the First Team All-Big 12 team. He totaled 133 tackles including 16 tackles for a loss. George finished third in the nation in tackles per game with 11.08. He will be able to play both weakside and outside linebacker in the NFL.

LB Kevin Pierre-Louis, Boston College

Pierre-Louis is very active and always around the ball. He has terrific anticipation and a real nose for the ball. That is probably a result of his two years spent playing alongside Luke Kuechley. This is a player that can cover a large area. Pierre-Louis is a four year starter that can also play special teams.

LB Avery Williamson, Kentucky

Williamson finished the season as Kentucky’s leading tackler for the second consecutive year after posting 102 total tackles.  He is tied for fourth in the SEC in total tackles. Williamson has the prototypical size for an inside linebacker and is a prospect that can be a three down linebacker in the NFL.
