Members of the NFL rookie class of 2011 took a break from lectures and workouts to get outside with 170 children from two YMCA branches at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida.
The rookies were gathered to attend the NFLPA sponsored symposium entitled “The Business of Football: Rookie Edition,” but they got away from business for a few hours to run the kids through some drills and let the campers have some quality play time with the soon-to-be NFL players.
Many prominent rookies were in attendance, including Heisman Trophy winner and number one overall draft pick Cam Newton and Marcell Dareus, the Most Valuable Player in the Crimson Tide’s 2010 BCS National Championship Game win over Texas.
The rookies will have to continue to wait out the current NFL lockout before they can officially join their new teams, but they clearly look ready to go when the whistle blows.
