Going into the last week of the regular season, there is a great chance of many NFL Players to chase history and make their mark into the NFL Record Books by either breaking previous records or creating more room in the record book for new ones. Here are just a few to keep a watch on this Sunday.
2,000 Receiving Yards
Detroit Lions Wide Receiver Calvin “Megatron” Johnson has a chance to become the first wide receiver to reach 2,000 receiving yards. Just one week after surpassing Jerry Rice for the most receiving yards in a season. Johnson currently has 1,892; he needs 108 receiving yards to get to 2,000.
2,000 Rushing Yards and Chasing Eric Dickerson’s 2,105
Minnesota Viking’s Running Back Adrian Peterson is already having a year of the ages from coming back from an ACL Knee Injury to garner Comeback Player of the Year and MVP Votes. But he needs 102 yards to become the 7th running back to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. He states his goal is to break the record held by Eric Dickerson. He will need a big day against the Green Bay Packers to break it, 208 yards to be exact.
Back to Back 5,000 Passing Yards
New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees and Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford have a chance to become the first two quarterbacks to pass for back to back 5,000 yard seasons. Brees currently needs 219 passing yards and Stafford currently needs 305 passing yards.
The New “1,000/1,000” Club
Green Bay Packer Wide Receiver/Kick Returner Randall Cobb is on pace to become the first player in NFL History to reach 1,000 receiving yards and 1,000 return yards. He needs 46 receiving yards and 36 return yards to reach both milestones. But with Cobb status up in the air for Sunday’s game against the Vikings with an ankle injury, he may not get the chance. If he does give it a go, watching Cobb and Peterson chase history while the Vikings also chase a wildcard playoff berth will make the game a must see.
Sacks
Three Defensive Players have a chance at breaking the NFL Sack Record held by New York Giants, Defensive End Michael Strahan of 22.5 sacks. Houston Texan’s J.J. Watt needs two sacks to tie the record and three to break it. San Francisco 49ers Defensive End Aldon Smith needs three and Denver Broncos Linebacker Von Miller needs five sacks.
