NFL New Year, KISS and Green

Black Friday, Happy New (NFL) Year (Season) and the NFL Free agency these are a few of my favorite things, at least for the time being, nflnewyear enough to get me out of my funk. After a stretch of withdrawal or possibly depression, from lack of football, I used some diversion by way of the Sochi Olympics, where I had to endure some tacky holiday sweaters which by the way are already available on Ebay.

I wanted to be elevated just like T.O. and Tony Hawk by a HUVRBoard  and taken to the future. My heart was filled with a Happy New Year, the NFL season commenced along with a new Rock and Roll arena football team in LA, a little #flashbackfriday and some free agents coming out big and the appropriateness of St Patrick’s Day approaching.

The shamrock had been seen as sacred in the pre-Christian days in Ireland. Due to its green color and overall shape, many viewed it as representing rebirth and eternal life. Green is also the color of growth and spring; it renews and restores depleted energy, a nice parallel with the NFL starts.

Love Gun playing in LA with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley bringing a professional football team to a long over due LA market, that’s not including the Trojans. The LA KISS  will be giving the Oregon Ducks some competition, at least in the uniform department.

With so many misunderstandings on the NFL Free Agency I thought meriting to show you the cap chart, it may make you understand a bit more on decisions being made. It’s a business remember!!

A few quick highlights on the NFL Free Agency in the last few days, Darrelle Revis AKA Revis Island signs 1 year 12 million dollar deal with the Patriots.  Earlier today on The Dan Patrick Show,  Rich Eisen expressed his views stating,

“Just another chapter in the Jets-Patriots border war that Revis winds up in New England.  That is just a perfect fit!”  along with agreeing with the masses, “best in the biz!”

Little ping pong, Cowboys release number one pass rusher Demarcus Ware  and save $16 million.

DeMarcus Ware, through his performance on the field and his outstanding character, is someone who is held in the highest regard within the Dallas Cowboys family. He is worthy of our greatest respect, and we want what is best for him and his family,” Jones said.

In less than 24 hours, Pro Bowler Ware signs $30 million contract with Broncos, $20 million guaranteed.  Aqib Talib also moving to the Mile High, as he signs $26 million guaranteed with Denver.

“Thanks for the opportunity to be here, opportunity to play for a great organization,” Talib said at an introductory news conference in Denver. “I’m just excited, man. Looking forward to the opportunity.”

After some powerful moves and signings, John Elway is feeling like a leprechaun with a pot of gold.

“We know how much we hated playing against him, so we’re thrilled he’s come to the Denver Broncos,” said Broncos president John Elway. “He’s a tremendous player, tough, great cover guy. He’s going to really add to our secondary.”

49ers’ Jim Harbaugh  united with former player from Stanford, Jonathan Martin.

New Orleans trades Darren Sproles  to Philadelphia.

Lamar Houston signs a 5 year, $35 million contract with the Bears with a lot of excitement!

“What set the Bears apart for me besides having a team that’s in a position to win is the attitude of the players who have played there before; guys like Dick Butkus, with that nasty, in-your-face tough football. That’s what I love to play and being in an organization that embraces that, I think it’s a good fit for me,” Houston told the Bears’ website.

Mid February, future HOF, Tony Gonzales retires and joined a fortunate and grateful CBS Sports’ The NFL Today crew as a commentator.

“Having just stepped off the playing field, Tony brings a fresh and insightful perspective,” CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus said in a statement. “As a future Hall of Famer, we are excited for him to share his knowledge, experiences and opinions with our viewers. Tony was one of the most respected and hardworking players in the NFL and a tremendous teammate. We look forward to him bringing these attributes to CBS Sports.”

However he never officially filed his retirement paperwork and was released by the Falcons, making him officially retired or possibly in the hunt.

“This was a decision we had to make with the start of the new league year as we begin retooling our roster for 2014,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said in a press release. “On behalf of the entire Falcons organization, we wish Tony all the best in his television career and thank him for everything he did for this franchise.”

Newly Ex-Jet, Antonio Cromartie currently negotiating with the Arizona Cardinals as I write.  Woes in Carolina,  possibly the best receiver/ player with the Panthers in over the last 2 decades,  Steve Smith was released.

“When I took this position I knew that difficult decisions would have to be made along the way,” Panthers General Manager Dave Gettleman said in a statement. “To move on from a storied veteran player is probably the most difficult of all. A decision not to be taken lightly. However, after much thought I feel very strongly it’s the right one. As I’ve stated many times, all decisions I make will be in the long-term best interest of the Carolina Panthers. Decisions, either popular or unpopular, have to be made for the greater good, and it is imperative to take an unemotional global view.”

What a week its been, I’ve only touched on a few elements, but definately feel the blood running as this is just the start of another amazing new NFL season.  Happy St. Patricks Day!!
