Andre Reed is the most decorated wide receiver in Buffalo Bills history. He was a seven-time Pro-Bowler on the field, and well known for his ability to turn short completions into exciting big plays, finished his career third all time in NFL history with 951 receptions, sixth in receiving yards with 13,198 and seventh in touchdowns with 86. Reed also had legendary longevity, as he and Jerry Rice remain the only two wide receivers in NFL history to catch at least 50 passes in 13 different seasons.
Here’s a a look at how Reed compares to the other HOF receivers who’s career coincided with his, Reed had:
- More receptions, yards and touchdowns than Micheal Irvin, Charlie Joiner, Art Monk, and John Stallworth,
- More receptions and yards than Steve Largent,
- More receptions and touchdowns than James Lofton,
- The only receiver who tops Reed in each category is arguably the greatest receiver of all time, Jerry Rice
Despite all this, Reed didn’t get the HOF nod once again this year. The legend player handled the results with class, tweeting “Congrats to the HOF class of 2012. You all are very deserving of this most prestigous honor!!!”
Pro Player Insiders spoke with Reed shortly before the HOF announcement and he shared with some current NFL players he enjoys watching. ” I like to watch all of the receivers. A lot of the time, I watch Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson. All of these receivers now are breaking records left and right. I mean 100 catches when I came into the league was a career year. These guys are doing it every year now, so I just like good work ethic and how these guys are preparing. That’s the way I went about doing my thing.”
As for what he thinks happens next he tweeted, “Thanks to all the fans for your support… Some day soon !!! God has a plan.”
