With the recent rule changes in the last 5-10 years, it has made it almost impossible for defenses to play true old school defense. However, you do see some cases of it like Seattle, San Francisco, and Carolina. One of the most important positions to help make up for these changes in the rules is the Defensive Backs. The Seattle Seahawks showed that having a dominant secondary can shut down even the most elite of quarterbacks. This year at the NFL Combine, the DBs are not being as hyped as they normally are. No one is being hyped as a top 10 pick, and no one is being mentioned as a shutdown CB. However, a good combine can change all of that.
Some of the notable players at Defensive back were Ha’Sean Clinton-Dix, a Safety from Alabama, who came in at 6’1 208 lbs with a 32 and 3/8th inch arm length, and a 9 inch hand length. Calvin Pryor, a safety from Louisville checked in at 5’11 207 lbs, a 31 and 3/8th inch arm length, and a 9 and 1/8th inch hand length. Justin Gilbert, a Cornerback from Oklahoma State measured 6’ 202 lbs, a 33 and 1/8th inch hand length, and a 8 and 5/8th inch arm length. Bradley Roby, a Cornerback from Ohio State ended up being 5’11 194 lbs, a 31 and half inch arm length, and a 10 and 1/4th inch hand length. Also Darqueze Dennard, a Cornerback from Michigan State measure in at 5’11 199 lbs, a 30 and 1/4th inch arm length, and a 9 inch hand length.
