A Raven’s Mother’s Day Reflections from Mom Nicole Cundiff

Nicole Cundiff, wife of Baltimore Ravens placekicker Billy Cundiff, is kept busy raising their two children – four-year-old Chloe and two-year-old Luck – and even more busy with a third on the way.  We were able to catch up with her for some special Mother’s Day reflections.

Pro Player Insiders:  What does being a mother mean to you?

Nicole Cundiff:  Being a mom is the greatest blessing of my life. My kids have taught me so much about making the most of each day and remaining playful, joyful and young-at-heart throughout life.

PPI:  What are names and ages of your children?  Tell us word to describe each of them.

NC:  We have two kids and one on the way. Chloe is 4 years old and is such a special little girl who can light up any room with her smile and friendliness. The word I would use for her is Precious, as I am constantly amazed by her thoughtfulness and grace. Our son, Luke, is 2 years old and is so sweet. He always has a smile on his face and is so caring, but he is also 100 percent boy. The word I would use to describe him is Determined because he constantly wants to try new things.

PPI:  What has been one of your fondest memories that made you realize the amazing gift of motherhood?

NC:  Bringing a child into this world is such a miracle. The bond I experienced when I met both of my children for the first time was so strong that I couldn’t imagine life without them after that moment. They have made my life complete.

PPI:  How has your own mother influenced your life and how you raise your children?

NC:  My mom is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. She raised 4 independent, strong-willed and educated daughters. Over the last 5 years, she has battled ovarian cancer and has shown amazing strength throughout her fight. She is not only the rock of our family, but has shown us how to be kind, caring, compassionate and selfless. She loves unconditionally and is my best friend. I pray to have a similar relationship with my children as they get older.

PPI:  What will you be doing with your husband and family on Mother’s Day? Does your family have any traditional ways they celebrate Mother’s Day?

NC:  My husband, kids and I will be going out to dinner, but we will also celebrate with my mom, sisters and their husbands with a big brunch. This year will be extra special because we will be opening an envelope with my family that will reveal our new baby’s gender! I cannot imagine a more memorable Mother’s Day!

PPI:  Even though your husband plays a masculine sport, how do you think his mother has influenced his success?

NC:  I think Billy’s mom has influenced his success by encouraging him to continue his football career when he doubted he wanted to play during his high school years.  She was also very encouraging in getting him to play other sports and try new things.  Most of all, she was there to build Billy up until he was ready to do it on his own.
