Mike Scifres named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

Mike Scifres of the San Diego Chargers has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, the NFL  announced today.

SPECIAL TEAMS: P MIKE SCIFRES, SAN DIEGO CHARGERS

  • Scifres punted nine times for 380 yards (42.2 average) and placed five inside the 12-yard line in the Chargers’ 13-6 win against Oakland.
  • Scifres, who averaged 41.4 net yards per punt, placed punts at the two, four, six, eight and 12-yard lines, contributing to the Raiders’ average starting drive position for the game of their own 18-yard line.
  • His five punts inside the 20-yard line, which tied a career-high, led all NFL players in Week 11.
  • In his 12th season from Western Illinois, this is Scifres’ second career Player of the Week Award and first since 2007 (Week 8).
  • He is the second Charger to be named Special Teams Player of the Week this season, joining kicker NICK NOVAK (Week 4).
