As the NFL draft approaches in the next week, there have been a buzz around certain wide receivers that have caught the attention of the media and different teams that may want to go after these players. NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock predicted that six wideouts will come off the board in the first round: Clemson’s Sammy Watkins, Texas A&M’s Mike Evans, LSU’s Odell Beckham, Oregon State’s Brandin Cooks, Florida State’s Kelvin Benjamin, and USC’s Marqise Lee all have a shot to get drafted by a team in the first round.
Each of these players have distinctive talents that could be utilized to help some organization in desperate need of a receiver. In a per evaluation Mayock have each of these receivers going in the first round, but here is the placement and reason behind it all; “Watkins and Evans should be the first two,” Mayock said Thursday.
“I think the next two are going to be wideouts, two months ago people wouldn’t have said go for it. They would have took another player at a different position. Mayock indicated Odell Beckham of LSU and Brandin Cooks om Oregon State could get picked up. Mayock later on added that he had Beckham going to the New York Jets with the 18th overall draft pick.
“Beckham is an explosive kid with return skills, he gets in and out of breaks as well as any receiver in the draft,”Mayocke said. “Cooks is a smaller receiver, but maybe the most explosive receiver in the entire group. He also is a good route-runner.”I think both those guys’ value starts somewhere in that (No.) 13, 14 area, and they’ll be gone by plus or minus 20, and then Kelvin Benjaminnd I believe will come into play after that says Mayock.”
With only a week away until decisions have to be made, these six players are going to be hard to bypass. The stage is set and only time will tell if all six receivers that were mentioned will get drafted in the first round.
