Former Colts and Rams running back Marshall Faulk spoke with Pro Player Insiders recently on some of his favorite players, the role of the NFLPA and the Hall of Fame. Marshall is one of the three players (Marcus Allen & Tiki Barber) to reach at least 10,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards in his career and the only one to have 12,000 yards rushing, 6,000 yards receiving. He hold NFL records for: his seven two-point conversions, his 5 games of 250+ yards from scrimmage, and his 14 games of 200+ yards from scrimmage. Faulk is the only player to have 70+ rushing touchdowns and 30+ receiving touchdowns. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
PPI: Name an NFL player that you believe stands out today?
MF: for me a guy like Drew Brees. Hes a guy that I know intimately. Drew and I friends on and off the field. I respect his game. And because of this, I am from New Orleans, when the city was at its worst for him to go there and rebuild and to think of , ok this is where I going to restart my career at because San Diego did not want him and to see where they are at now. To be in the super dome and to watch my New Orleaneans sit there and watch and participate and comfort the team and for him to have won the super bowl that’s something that organization has never done. Hes a guy that I’m always proud of.
PPI: Talking about a former player and a friend of yours, Andre Reed, do you think he should be in the HOF?
MF: If I had a vote he would get my vote. I played against him when he was with the Bills and I was with the Colts. You look at the other guys on other teams that are in and Andre definitely deserves to get in. It’s just unfortunate that there’s a log-jam of receivers right now. But the guy deserves to be in the hall of fame. The only thing I can tell him is to be patient.
PPI: What is the significance of the PULSE Awards?
MF: PULSE Is an opportunity for the NFL Players Association to recognize their players for all the things that they have done, in various categories. I believe it’s a great initiative, to not side-step the things that the NFL is doing, but to basically a way to recognize and identify the things that are being done on and off the field by [current and former] players.
