The Pittsburgh Steelers, the most heavily fined team in the NFL, finally won a round as the NFL agreed to overturn the $10,000 fine on All Pro safety Troy Polamalu for using a cell phone on the sidelines.
This should have been a no-brainer, as the NFL never should have issued the fine to begin with. Polamalu, who has a history with concussions, had a brief phone conversation with his wife to tell her he was ok after exiting the game with a concussion (sorry… “concussion-like symptoms” which is the term in Pittsburgh for a “concussion”).
The ban on sideline use of cell phones is reasonable, but a health related call like this should be an exception. Kudos to the league for getting this one right in the end.
