Tuesday Left Tackle Jared Veldheer joined the Arizona Cardinals with a big free agent contract.
Veldheer agreed to a five-year deal worth $35 million. The pact includes $17 million in guarantees and could max out to $37.5 million if Jared Veldheer meets certain incentives.
An imposing presence at 6-8, 321 pounds, Veldheer will now man the blind side of immobile Cards QB Carson Palmer, who was sacked a career-high 41 times in 2013. Arizona coach Bruce Arians had said before free agency began that the team needed to improve in the trenches.
Veldheer, who played through a torn triceps in 2013, had developed into a solid player for the Oakland Raiders, who picked him in the third round of the 2010 draft. However they opted not to re-sign, or even franchise Veldheer.
Veldheer took to twitter Monday Thanking coaches and fans for a great 4 years.
Thank you #raidernation for 4 great years. You guys are awesome. I was blessed that Mr. Davis brought me into your community.
