Jaguars top Texans

The Jacksonville Jaguars took down the Houston Texans on Thursday night for their 4th win in their last 5 games. That’s right. The Jacksonville Jaguars have won 4 of their last 5 games.

On the other hand the Houston Texans dropped their 11th straight game after starting the season 2-0. The Texans (2-11) have lost by 7 points or less in 8 of their 11 losses.

Jacksonville started the game off strong Thursday night when quarterback Chad Henne connected from a yard out with tight end Mercedes Lewis to put the Jaguars up 7-0. In the second quarter the Jaguars took a 14-0 lead when Henne found wide receiver Cecil Shorts on a 6-yard pass. Henne finished the night 12/27 for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Houston Texans quarterback Case Keenum

The Texans got on the board with less than 2 minutes to play in the first half when Keshawn Martin caught his first ever NFL touchdown from Houston quarterback Case Keenum. Jacksonville was able to answer back before halftime with a 40-yard field goal from Josh Scobee to push the score to 17-7 at the break.

Keenum started the game at quarterback for the Texans, but was replaced by Matt Schuab late in the third quarter. Keenum was 16/29 for 159 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

On the first two possessions Schuab led the Texans to a 5-yard touchdown pass to tight end Garrett Graham followed by a 31-yard field goal by Randy Bullock. The Texans only trailed by 4 with 11:30 minutes to play in the fourth quarter. With 3:37 left the Texans were in the red zone, but couldn’t convert on fourth down.

Jacksonville took over in their own territory with just over 3:30 remaining and the Texans’ defense held strong and forced a punt. On the next play Schuab threw a ball over the middle that was intercepted by Geno Hayes with just over 2:08 in the game.

The Jaguars milked the clock down and kicked an insurance field goal, leaving only 20 seconds left for the Texans to go 77 yards. Schuab was sacked on the play and the clock ran out.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, now have the longest winning streak in the AFC, and will play the Buffalo Bills next Sunday. The Houston Texans will look to find their first win since Week 2 as they travel to Indianapolis to face off against the Colts.
