The reigning Super Bowl Champion New York Giants now have a full week of practice under their belts as they prepare to defend their title. Coach Tom Coughlin’s group has had a lighter practice schedule this training camp compared to year’s past, giving players more opportunities to focus on the little things in the film and weight room. Only time will tell if the lighter practice load pays off for this 2012 football season.
While in attendance at Giants camp which is held at the University of Albany, Pro Player Insiders had a chance to catch up with rookie wide receiver Reuben Randle regarding the upcoming season and about some fun interests of his that an average fan might not know about him.
Randle, who played his college ball at LSU, was a second round selection for the Giants in the 2012 NFL Draft. Last season for the Tigers, Randle led the team in receptions (53) and yards (917) which helped earn him first-team All-SEC honors. Randle also hauled in 8 touchdown receptions and averaged 17.3 yards a catch. His efforts helped LSU go undefeated during the regular season, and earned them a National Championship appearance, despite losing to Alabama in the title game. The Giants coaching staff is excited about the future of Randle, who has the potential to evolve into one of Eli Manning’s key weapons for years to come.
Pro Player Insider: What is it like so far to be a member of the New York Giants?
Reuben Randle: It’s a blessing man. They provide a great atmosphere. It’s a great place, great teammates, great coaching staff. You know we’ve all been on one theme, just go out there and perform one goal, no one’s bigger than the team, everybody’s humble and everybody wants to get each other better. That’s what I’ve pretty much learned from the coaching staff.
PPI: Having said that, you’re coming off a National Championship appearance yourself, so what do you think you can bring to the table having experience being in the limelight?
RR: Just go out there and play ball. I’ll perform under the pressure, it won’t really be a big deal. Just go out there and do my job, and whatever the coaches ask me to do, I think I’m willing to be able to do it.
