Fantasy Football: Week 3 Picks

Fantasy Week 3:
Trenches or Benches

Week 2 Review:

QB:

  • Matt Schaub was a disappointment. 195 yards and no scores. It looks like the Texans have become a running/defensive team. Schaub has become a backup fantasy QB.
  • Andrew Luck had a nice game with 224 yards and 2 TD’s, adding 21 yards on the ground.
  • Sam Bradford exceeded all expectations, throwing for 310 yards and 3 scores.

My Bust: Josh Freeman benefited from a crazy game against the Giants. He was able to rack up 243 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was intercepted two times.

RB:

  • CJ Spiller blew up against the Chiefs with 123 yards and 2 scores, adding 3 receptions and 47 yards.
  • Benjarvus Green Ellis amassed 105 total yards, but without a score he left owners disappointed.

My Bust: Kevin Smith was only able to muster 70 total yards against the stingy 49ers Defense.

WR:

  • Wes Welker benefited from the injury to Aaron Hernandez. He ended with 5 receptions for 95 yards.
  • Brandon Lafell had a nice game finishing with 6 catches for 90 Yards.

My Bust: Mike Wallace benefit from the absence of Darrelle Revis and was able to grab 5 catches for 74 yards and a score.

TE:

  • Kyle Rudolph only had 3 receptions for 35 yards, but he was able to score and salvage his week.
  • Jared Cook  caught only 3 passes for 23 yards as the Titans offense continues to struggle.
  • Brent Celek blew up for the Eagles with 8 receptions for 157 yards. Owners who started him were pleasantly surprised.

My Bust: Jason Witten had an okay day with 4 catches for 58 yards.

Week 3 Picks

QUARTERBACKS:

Most Upside: Ben Roethlisberger
With the running back situation in Pittsburgh a mess, look for Big Ben to capitalize against a struggling Raiders defense. Roethisberger will pass for close to  300 yards and add 2-3 touchdown passes.

Sleeper: Ryan Fitzpatrick
Cleveland will focus on trying to slow down CJ Spiller. Fitzpatrick should be able make some big plays through the air and capitalize on play action. Projected total: 275 yards and 2 touchdown passes

Sleeper: Matt Cassel

Cassel is going to have to air it out against the Saints who should get their act together to avoid an 0-3 start. Cassel will be playing catch up. He may get picked off a few times, but he should get near 300 passing yards and 2 scores during garbage time.

RUNNING BACKS:

Upside: Maurice Jones-Drew
Three weeks into the season, MJD should be up to speed after his long pre-season hold out. Jones-Drew should exceed 100 yards and add 1-2 scores.

Upside: Michael Bush
With Matt Forte out with another injury, look for Chicago to lean on Bush in a game they should win. The Bears will pound it out late, and Bush should provide fantasy owners with 125 yards and a score.

Bust: Adrian Peterson
Look for AD’s early and surprising success to hit a temporary bump in the road against the stingy 49ers defense. I expect him to rush for around 70 yards and fail to reach pay dirt.

WIDE RECEIVERS:

Sleeper: Justin Blackmon
I expect Blackmon to have his best game as a pro against the Colts. The game is inside of Lucas Oil Stadium and should be a shootout. Blackmon will catch 6 passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Sleeper: Leonard Hankerson
If Garcon is out again (he is listed as doubtful), look for Hankerson to be RG3′s main target. Hankerson should be good for 6 catches for 80 yards and a score.

Deep Sleeper: Titus Young
Everyone who drafted Young high expecting a “breakout season” will breath a sigh of relief this week. Look for Young to get it going with 5 receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Bust: Percy Harvin
Harvin will get some touches, but he will find it tough to get going against the 49ers defense. I don’t see him gaining more than 70 total yards and don’t expect him to get in the end zone.

TIGHT ENDS:

Upside: Heath Miller
Look for Miller to find some room down the seams while teammates Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace grab the attention of the Raiders secondary. I have him down for  7 catches totaling 65 yards and a TD.

Sleeper Scott Chandler
Fitzpatrick and the Bills will have a lot of success against the Browns, and I expect Chandler to get in on the fun. Chandler will grab five catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Bust: Brandon Myers
With everyone jumping on the Myers bandwagon, this week will be a struggle against the Steelers. I expect Myers to struggle to get  50 total yards and won’t score. I do like him going forward though because the Raiders offensive coordinator likes to get the tight end involved.
