Even though Colin Kaepernick earned his first NFL start less than three months ago, the second-year quarterback appears unfazed by the magnitude of playing in Super Bowl XLVII. All along, Kaepernick has said that adequate preparation eases pressure. His faith is a significant factor, too.
“It’s played a huge role,” Kaepernick told a throng of reporters during Tuesday’s Media Day. “My faith is something that I lean on every day just to make sure I’m doing the right thing.”
Bible verses and artwork adorn much of Kaepernick’s upper body, an artistic nod to his inspirer.
“(I was) 19 (when I got my first tattoo). I always wanted tattoos, but my dad told me that, ‘You’re not going to have any tattoos while you’re under this roof. Once you’re 18 and out of the house you can do what you want.’”
In his nine tries as an NFL starter, Kaepernick has done what he’s wanted with opposing defenses. He says he has another tattoo planned for after Sunday’s showdown with Baltimore, win or lose.
“I haven’t made the official phone call,” Kaepernick said. “But he knows I’m coming.”
