The Miami Dolphins have been looking for a decent wide receiver since their releasing of Chad Johnson at the start of their 2012-13 season. They have finally found their answer in veteran wide receiver Mike Wallace.
Last season, Wallace managed to rack up 64 receptions for a total of 836 yards. He also earned himself eight touch downs during his season with the Steelers. This puts him in the running for becoming Miami’s go-to receiver. Brian Hartline, Miami’s current reception leader, had 74 receptions for 1083 yards and one touchdown during the 2012-13 season. His numbers are comparable to Wallace’s and will be interesting to watch as the season progresses.
The Dolphin’s have very high expectations for Wallace. They specifically signed him to fill the WR gap that has been plaguing the Dolphins for some time now. When asked if this type of pressure would faze him, Wallace responded by saying “I don’t have any pressure at all actually. I feel that I put enough pressure on myself just to be good – for myself, my family, my teammates and my organization, the fans.” With this type of attitude, Fin’s Fans have something big to look forward to especially after losing three players that had a huge role on the team (Reggie Bush, Anthony Fasano, and Karlos Dansby).
The Dolphins also decided to sign LB Danell Ellerbee, LB Philip Wheeler, and S Chris Clemons. Ellerbee finished his season with 92 total tackles and 4.5 sacks and formerly played for the Baltimore Ravens. Wheeler came from the Oakland Raiders where he finished with 109 total tackles and three sacks. The Dolphins let go of Karlos Dansby to make room for these two players who will make a great addition to the Dolphin’s defensive unit. Chris Clemons, who played for the Dolphins in the 2012-13 season, finished his season with 99 total tackles and two interceptions. These numbers convinced the Dolphins to re-sign him and make him the starting free safety.
With these types of acquisitions, the Dolphins have a chance at a winning season and a possible play-off berth. Fans are looking forward to what these players can bring to the table and are anxiously waiting for September to finally begin so they can see exactly what these players can do.
