The last time the Dallas Cowboys was on the playing field things did not turn out as they desired. Well, maybe on the defensive line, things look better and brighter. The first half of the game over two weeks ago, the defense sacked New England’s quarterback Tom Brady an outstanding five times and had numerous knockdowns and hurries. This defensive push was mainly a result of the reinstating of defensive end Greg Hardy into the lineup. Also, linebacker Rolando McClain made his presence known for his first time on the field.
The defense played well enough to win, but the offense sputtered for most of the game. Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden misfired on a number of occasions, sometimes to wide open receivers. The Cowboys running game against the Patriots was lack-luster to say the least. Anybody who follows the Cowboys or just football in general, could easily suspect some changes to be made on the Cowboys team, and rightfully so.
The best thing that could have happened to the Cowboys football after the embarrassing loss to the undefeated New England Patriots, was to have a bye week. The bye week gave the Cowboys time to lick their wounds and heal, while coming up with strategies for their next opponent. It certainly did not take the Cowboys long to make changes and mix up the lineup. As far as right now, Matt Cassel will be replacing Brandon Weeden at starting quarterback, Christine Michael will be replacing Lance Dunbar at the running back position, and star wide receiver Dez Bryant is propose to get back in the line-up as it has been rumored for the last two weeks. Bryant did not practice this Wednesday. But Owner, President, and General Manager, Jerry Jones was quoted earlier this week saying “Dez’s availability for Sunday depends on his comfort level.”
It was reported that Nike created special cleat protect Bryant’s foot. The Cowboys could sure use Bryant this Sunday as the Cowboys prepare to face their divisional rivals, the New York Giants. Also, defensive end rookie Randy Gregory is slated to return to the Cowboys lineup. The Cowboys will be facing a Giant team who just suffered a beat down at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles this past Monday night. The Giants are dealing with injuries affecting some of their key players, Odell Beckham Jr and Rueben Randle, two starting wide receivers. With the Eagles winning over the Giants, it helps the Cowboys’ cause.
Cowboys are still in the race for the division title contention, even after suffering three consecutive losses. The Cowboys are entering this Sunday’s game posting a record of 2-3, putting them in third place in their division. If the Cowboys could sniff out a win against the Giants in New York, it would help them hold their ground one more week, while allowing Tony Romo and other injured players to recover and look forward to return to battle for the division and make a run in the playoffs. Looking at where the Cowboys stand now as a team and comparing where the Giants are as a team, it looks like the Cowboys will come out victorious this afternoon. The Cowboy’s defense, especially their pass rush will be a bit overpowering for the Giants’ offense. Also, with the lineup changes, the Cowboys offense should get back on track and create a spark that I believe will give the Cowboys a 14pts win.
