Music has been in Michael Cofey’s life since growing up in the last frontier – Fairbanks, Alaska. From Alaska to his current home in Oregon, Cofey has taken the Northwest by storm. Residents in the Pacific Northwest love two things – their music and their coffee, so with this in mind , Cofey branded an empire and alias known as “Starbuks.” Like the effects of coffee, Starbuks brings a new energy to the rap scene and he has become a respected entrepenuer, writer, and rapper.
Cofey raps about his experiences and uses his keen sense of sarcasm to bring a new flavor to the game. With his group, The Option, he has released the records Option One: Brainstorm and The I-5 Campaign. As a solo rapper, Starbuks released albums including 2006′s Me, Myself and Starbuks, 2009′s Side Up, and Requiem For Tha Streets: Meeting Mr. Cofey.
Cofey’s grind led him to top Ozone Magazine’s Patiently Waiting list of artists to watch in 2010. He has worked and produced with Messy Marv, Brotha Lynch and Devin the Dude.
Mike also has game on the sports field. Playing football, basketball, and baseball growing up has also influenced Cofey’s music. Recently, Cofey played for the amateur Alaskan Goldpanners, who have notable alumni like Jason Giambi, Barry Bonds, Tom Seaver and Dave Winfield, to name a few.
With the Goldpanners, Cofey has played in ESPN’s Top 10 Must See Baseball Events: The live Midnight Sun Game. Beyond baseball, Starbuks is an avid football follower. Together Pro Player Insiders and Mr.Cofey plan to bring beats and lyrical analysis to NFL news. To debut PPI’s newest contributor, Starbuks produced our new PPI theme song.
