Chad Pennington Returns

Chad Pennington has had an influence on the Miami Dolphin’s quarterbacks ever since he began playing for the team in 2008. In his time with the Dolphins, he was able to lead them to an 11-5 season in 2008 where they defeated the New York Jets to claim the AFC East Title. In 2009, Pennington was injured ending his season and in the long-run his career as a NFL quarterback.

This has not stopped Pennington from helping the Dolphins. On May 29th he was brought in to Dolphin’s training camp to guide the quarterbacks in the right direction. Ryan Tannehill was extremely glad Pennington was there. He stated that Pennington “has a lot of knowledge. He played the game a long time at a high level and was a student of the game his entire career. You can tell that just by talking with him.” Pennington was in the league a total of 11 years most of which were spent playing for the NYJ. At the end of his career he had 17,823 passing yards and a QB rating of 90.1.

Joe Philbin has been very pleased with the coaching Pennington has provided for his young QB, Ryan Tannehill. Philbin said  “It’s great to have him. I think it’s excellent for the players, the staff, to hear at times a different perspective on things.” In the past, Philbin did not have much contact with Pennington, only talking to him a couple of times over the phone. When Philbin was asked if Pennington would return for more than just a few days he stated that he was unsure of Pennington’s return because “he’s a busy man, a great family man.”

With the upcoming season in the not too distant future, it will be interesting to see if Pennington will return to help coach. He is a great influence and understands the Dolphin’s offense extremely well. Ryan Tannehill has plenty to learn from Pennington and will continue to do so hopefully leading the Dolphins to a playoff berth.
