The Buffalo Bills will put on full pads Saturday night for intrasquad scrimmage at St. John Fisher College. One player who won’t be participating is running back Fred Jackson who exited today’s morning practice early with a hamstring injury.
Head coach Rex Ryan said after practice that it isn’t a terrible injury, but the 34-year-old veteran definitely won’t play tomorrow and may be out a couple of weeks.
On the field, focus was given to goal line situations where, aside from a two-yard touchdown run from running back LeSean McCoy on the first play, the defense won the day, not allowing the Bills offense to score again.
As for the quarterback situation, Ryan is looking forward to seeing who will rise to the occasion tomorrow night when all three, EJ Manuel, Tyrod Taylor, and Matt Cassell, will get equal reps with the first, second, and third string offenses.
“We’ll see if there is any separation,” said Ryan. “This will probably play out…Indianapolis might not know who the quarterback is until we play them. We may know, but they may not know.”
Tomorrow’s practice, originally scheduled for 7 p.m., has been moved to 6 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. for fans. A ticket is required for admission. The team is off Sunday.
Additional Camp Notes:
Cornerback Ron Brooks sustained an ankle injury during a drill and left the field for a while before coming back and observing the rest of practice. Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus is dealing with a minor back injury, while wide receiver Chris Hogan injured his finger. All three are expected to participate tomorrow.
Wide receivers Sammy Watkins and Percy Harvin both were given rest days today. Both are expected to participate tomorrow.
Yesterday, the Bills signed former Eastern Michigan running back Bronson Hill. They released defensive lineman Erik Williams.
With both Boobie Dixon and Fred Jackson out, Rex Ryan indicated that wide receiver Marcus Thigpen, who entered the league as a running back, may be used out of the backfield
