The Buffalo Bills today announced that the team has signed LS Reid Ferguson, CB Charles Gaines, RB Cedric O’Neal, S Joe Powell, LB Max Valles and QB Josh Woodrum as reserve/future signings.
Ferguson spent the 2016 offseason with the Bills after entering the league with the team as an undrafted free agent and then rejoined the team on the practice squad on November 2. A 6-2, 244-pound LSU product, Ferguson started all four seasons at long snapper for the Tigers, snapping for both punt and field goal attempts. Ferguson was credited with 497 snaps during his collegiate career—with his only errant snap occurring during his freshman season. He is a native of Budford, Georgia.
Gaines joined the Bills practice squad on December 7. A 5-10, 180-pound Louisville product, he originally entered the NFL as a sixth round (189th overall) draft pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by Cleveland. Gaines appeared in six games with four starts as a rookie in 2015 with Cleveland, recording 15 tackles, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. Gaines, 24, is a native of Miami, Florida.
O’Neal has been a member of the Bills practice squad since December 15 and originally entered the league with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent following the 2016 NFL Draft. A 5-10, 215-pound Valdosta State product, O’Neal played in 48 games during his collegiate career, finishing as the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards (4,115) and rushing touchdowns (49). O’Neal is a native of Dublin, Georgia.
Powell finished the season on the Bills practice squad/injured list. He originally entered the NFL in 2016 during training camp with the New York Giants. The 6-2, 205-pound Globe Institute product has spent time with the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks of the PIFL and the Cleveland Gladiators of the AFL. Powell played one season at Globe Tech in 2013, recording 53 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one interception as a strong safety.
Valles spent the 2016 season on the Bills practice squad. The 6-4, 250-pound Virginia product originally entered the NFL as a sixth round pick (179th overall) of the Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft. Valles played two seasons at Virginia, seeing action in 22 games with 16 starts, totaling 78 tackles (32 solo), 13 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one INT and 12 passes defensed. Valles is a native of Sicklerville, NJ.
Woodrum joins the Bills after most recently spending time on the Chicago Bears practice squad. Woodrum, a 6-3, 231-pound Liberty University product, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants. Woodrum finished his collegiate career as Liberty’s all-time leader in passing yards (10,266) and total offensive yards (10,690). He is a native of Roanoke, Virginia.
