Braylon Edwards joins the ‘Niners

The 49ers have signed WR Braylon Edwards to a 1-year, $3.5 million deal  The market for Edwards’ services was incredibly soft — probably due to his legal troubles off the field and his inconsistent play on it.  From a fantasy perspective, this is a so-so landing spot for him.  Whether it’s Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick at the helm, the QB play figures to be shaky.  And we’re not sure how Edwards’ deep speed will fit in HC Jim Harbaugh’s West Coast Offense.  That being said, with WR Michael Crabtree continuing to disappoint, Edwards could easily emerge as San Fran’s top WR.  And he should be plenty motivated playing on a cheap 1-year, "prove-it" deal.  Consider him a low-end WR3 in fantasy leagues.  Alex Smith also gets a nice bump here.  He suddenly has a dangerous trio of pass-catchers to work with in Edwards, Crabtree, and TE Vernon Davis.  Smith could be a sneaky QB2 option for as long as he holds off Kaepernick.
