Linebacker BOBBY WAGNER of the Seattle Seahawks was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December, the NFL announced today.

- Wagner had a team-best 36 tackles, including one sack, and a pass defensed as the Seahawks posted a 4-0 record in December, winning the NFC West and earning home-field advantage.
- He led the team in tackles in three of Seattle’s four games, posting at least seven tackles in every game.
- His pass defensed in Week 17 resulted in BRUCE IRVIN’s 49-yard interception-return touchdown.
- The Seahawks led the NFL in December allowing 8.3 points per game and 211.3 total net yards per game. Seattle also led the league during the month in net passing yards allowed per game (144.3) and ranked second in rushing yards allowed per game (67.0).
- Wagner was selected to his first career Pro Bowl.
- In his third year from Utah State, this is Wagner’s first career Player of the Month Award.
- Wagner is the second Seahawks linebacker to be named Defensive Player of the Month, joining CHAD BROWN(November 1998).
