Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson was only under contract through this season, and has stated that he’d like to be back in Buffalo next year. The feeling appears to be very mutual.
Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick weighed in on his favorite target this week, saying, “If you look at what Steve has done with the two 1,000-yard seasons in a row, it’s really the first two years Steve has played.”
“I feel like a lot of what I’ve done and a lot of the success I’ve had since I’ve been here has been because of him. And the success that he’s had, a lot of it’s been because of me. We have that relationship.”
Coach Chan Gailey was asked if he’d like Johnson back as well, and after a pause of a few seconds, he said yes. “And with stipulations. I mean, you love what Stevie does on the field before he scores touchdowns. So you just have to decide if he can and we can get that under control.”
Gailey added, “Stevie’s a very good football player; he is a very good football player.”
Johnson has been penalized twice this season, including in the season finale, for post-touchdown celebrations on the field. The most recent penalty, lifting his shirt to reveal “Happy New Year” printed on his undershirt, earned a benching for the remainder of the game after warning given by the coaching staff following his last post-TD demonstration penalty.
