The Buffalo Bills have decided to move on from Bryce Brown, announcing that they have released the reserve running back today.
The Bills had to make room on their 53-man roster with defensive tackle Marcell Dareus being activated off the reserve suspended list and Brown, 24, found himself the odd man out in a crowded backfield.
He was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles for a fourth-round pick in the 2014 offseason, but didn’t give much of a return for GM Doug Whaley.
Brown came from the Eagles with high hopes he could turn into a running back of the future in Buffalo, with the aging of then co-starters Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller in the last year of his contract (he left this past offseason in free agency).
Fast forward to today; LeSean McCoy, Karlos Williams and Anthony Dixon are all on the roster and ahead of the fourth-year pro on the depth chart.
When the backfield returned to full health this past weekend against the Indianapolis Colts, Brown was a healthy scratch.
Without much special teams ability and well-known fumbling problems, he was seen as expendable.
Now that the Bills need a roster spot, Brown finds himself out of a job.
He ended his Bills career with just 52 touches in seven games played.
