The Carolina Panthers, who has a record 1-1 will have to be without their Safety Dean Marlowe for the rest of the year. Last week against the San Francisco 49ers, Marlowe had aggravated his hamstring, yet again. Before the start of the season, Marlowe had problems with staying on the field consistently, because of his hamstring. This will be a huge blow to the Panthers, because Marlowe was a very good safety that could cover receivers down field, play physical in bump and run situations, and covers ground pretty good with his close out speed.
The Panthers have three safeties that could be called on, but none of them really have that much experience in the NFL. The Panthers would either have to have faith in the three safeties that are on rooster or find a veteran replacement for the team.
As of right now, the Panthers have not disclosed any information on what they will be doing with adding more depth to the safety position or who will be the replacement for Marlowe.
Coming into this week against the Minnesota Vikings, Carolina has been having problems with stopping opponents from scoring and opponents’ net average has been 24 or more points scored on the Panthers ‘defense. This is happening to a defense that was first place last season and some of the criticism has been placed on the secondary at times. It is very early in the season, but if they do not tighten their defense up in the next few weeks, the Panthers will not get as far as they did last season.
