The NFL Draft will bring a lot of people to New York City. Some will watch the draft at Radio City Music Hall. Those who aren’t can enjoy the Draft in style and support a great cause thanks to Tutan Reyes, a former NFL player and founder of Beyond The Boroughs. His organization is hosting it’s sixth annual NFL Draft Viewing Fundraiser on Thursday, May 8th from 7 pm – 10 pm at the Gallery at The Dream Downtown Hotel in Manhattan. Click HERE to purchase tickets.
The event will give those who attend a rare experience in which they get to watch the first round of the NFL Draft with a number of NFL players and celebrities. The fundraiser is an opportunity to support Beyond the Boroughs’ mission: “providing college scholarships to deserving students with acceptance letters and unmet financial need.” Beyond the Boroughs offers scholarships of up to $20,000 per year over four years that are automatically renewable.
Pro Player Insiders got the chance to speak with Reyes about his event. He was very passionate when he talked about his vision and why he created his foundation.
“Beyond the Boroughs was started because my high school, August Martin which is in Queens was going through a time where students weren’t graduating and not continuing their education. I wanted to find a way to help the students have a direct pipeline to get to colleges and universities to continue their education. I wanted to just donate money to help but learned that wasn’t the right way to do it. I had to come up with something figurative to help more students. Beyond the Burroughs is more of a symbolism of when you think of New York, you think of the five boroughs and how big it is. You think this is the end all, be all but there is so much more out there. There’s something beyond whatever confines you have.”
The athletes and celebrities that attend the event will be able to mingle among some of the sharpest business minds in New York. Just like anyone else, the business minds enjoy mixing and mingling with professional athletes. This gives the athletes and celebrities a chance to make connections that will be valuable well beyond their entertainment career. It’s a win/win for everyone in attendance.
Reyes said that this is the biggest fund raiser of the year for Beyond The Boroughs. He anticipates over 200 guests for the NFL Draft Viewing Fundraiser which is made up of a selection of premier NFL athletes and entertainment personalities.
Anyone interested in helping the cause can go to the website: www.beyondtheboroughs.org
There are a variety of other ways to contribute also. There’s a donate button on the website or even monthly donations that can be made at whatever is a comfortable amount. Reyes has a goal to reach as many students as possible that want to continue their education. Beyond the Boroughs takes a few of it’s scholarship recipients to Africa to take part in a leadership exchange and do some missionary work in Botswana.
Thursday, May 8th provides an opportunity to enjoy a night of football while supporting a cause that is an investment in the future. College tuition is growing more an more expensive. The Beyond The Boroughs NFL Draft fundraiser is a way to help less fortunate high school students continue their education.
