In a record breaking game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Andrew Luck has once again shown the world that he can carry his team down the stretch. In the first half the Chiefs dominated both sides of the ball; on the defensive side they pressured Luck into throwing bad passes and rushed him into making hasty decisions which had turn into turnovers. But in the second half, it was a different ball game.
The score at halftime was 31-10 and the Chiefs set a NFL record for most points scored in a half.
In the second half Luck created a lot of noise as the team rallied behind him; he was reading what the Chief’s defense was giving him and his offensive line provided great protection in the pocket for him to deliver big throws done the field. At the end of the game he completed 29 of 45 for 443 yards and it was the second highest yardage in team history.
Both teams combined for 1,049 and set an NFL postseason record along with their 89 combined points, which is third on the all-time list.
Everybody in the stadium was amazed at the comeback including the Colt’s head coach;” One for the ages,” said coach Pagano.” I think somebody said that it was the second-largest comeback or whatever in the history of whatever. I guess 21 wasn’t large enough at half, so we thought we’ve give them another seven, you know, just to make it interesting.”
“I don’t know if it ever crossed my mind on how it would be remembered,” Luck said after winning his first playoff game four seasons quicker than it took his predecessor, Peyton Manning. “When I took a knee, and you felt the buzz and the energy of the crowd and see your teammates’ faces, that makes it special.”
Lets not take anything away from the Chiefs; despite getting the Colt’s out of third down conversions the team itself has nothing to complain about. Just last year the Chiefs went 2-14 and was looking to add pieces to their organization. They brought Andy Reid and Alex Smith over and look what they had accomplished in just one year.
After the devastating lost to the Colts, Smith had nothing but compliments for the Colt’s QB.”He’s as advertised. He went out there and definitely avoided some pressure and made big plays.”
Colt’s kicker Adam Vinatieri became the first player in NFL history to score 200 points in the playoffs. He now has 205. Indy won its first playoff game without Manning since Jan. 7, 1996, when Jim Harbaugh was the QB.
