49ers New Stadium Gets “Fitting” Name

When you go to a football game, what do you wear? Jacket, football jersey perhaps?  How about, jeans?

Today, the San Francisco 49ers announced that their new stadium in Santa Clara, CA, set to open at the start of the 2014 season, will now be called “Levi’s Stadium.”

Levi Strauss and Co, a juggernaut of the jean and clothing industry in general, struck a 20 year, $220 million deal with the Santa Clara Stadium Authority this afternoon.

I can already see the meme of Xzibit: “Yo dawg, I heard you like football and Levi’s, so we named the stadium Levi’s, so you can look at Levi’s while wearing your Levi’s, while watching the game, while being in Levi’s stadium!”

The team and Levi’s held a celebratory pep rally at the team’s headquarters in Santa Clara, where team leaders Patrick Willis, Frank Gore, Vernon Davis, Justin Smith, and Colin Kaepernick along with coach Jim Harbaugh came onstage sporting some Levi’s and threw footballs into the crowd of Levi’s employees.

… you know, I do like Levi’s. I have a two pairs.
