Tom Coughlin Plans to be with Giants in 2014

After this season Tom Coughlin’s contract ends; he has the leisure of retiring or continue coaching. At 67 years old Coughlin is the oldest coach in the NFL As the losses piles up (the latest being Thursday night’s 27-21 defeat to the Chicago Bears), the talk around the New York Giants increasingly will turn to Tom Coughlin‘s future. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that we shouldn’t expect the coach to go anywhere.

A high-ranking Giants source tells Rapoport that Coughlin will have the opportunity to decide his own fate at the end of the season. Sources close to Coughlin tell Rapoport the coach plans to return for 2014.

“It has always been my belief that it is an honor and a privilege to be the head coach of the New York Giants,” Coughlin said. “I’m thankful to John Mara and Steve Tisch and their families for their support and the recognition of what our players and coaches have accomplished. And I’m grateful for the working relationship  playoffs, and have been Super Bowl Champions twiceJerry Reese and I have. We’ve got a lot of work left to do.”   Source: NFL.com

“Tom is the right person in the right job at the right time,” Giants chairman Steve Tisch said. “I just really appreciate how our players respond to his leadership and obviously our organization has benefitted tremendously because of the relationship Tom has with his players.”

Under Coughlin the Giants are 74-54 in regular season, 7-3 in the playoffs, and have been Super Bowl Champions twice.
