Even though Charlie Batch does not see much playing time during the season, only throwing for 208 yards this season, it does not stop him from making plays off of the field. Being in his 14th year in the NFL, and behind Ben Roethlisberger, Batch has been able to do so much off the field for the youth. Batch is greatly involved with his community and brings a good feeling to his hometown of Homestead, PA.
The Best of Batch Foundation was founded by the Pittsburgh quarterback Charlie Batch. It is an education based foundation that draws the attention of the children through sports. The foundation has a program that directly impacts the youth of troubled communities in the Pittsburgh area and throughout the nation. He has been running this foundation for over 10 years.
Batch also has been taking other players “under his wing” when trying to have them also give back to the community. He was mentored when he first entered the league back in 1998 with the Detroit Lions, and he believes in bringing new players to also do what he does for communities around the nation. He knows that certain players want to help out in the community, but just don’t know how to. This is why he believes that he can help them learn how to help and then they will be able to pass down the information for years to come.
ProPlayerInsiders caught up with Batch in Indy before the Super Bowl. When asked about some advice he would give to upcoming players in the NFL he responded, “Make sure you have a passion for it, if it’s something that you love doing, then you try and go out there and make the most of it. I think that’s something a lot of our players have taken to heart, whether that’s through their own foundations or the United Way, there’s always something you can do regardless of what it is your giving back and making sure that you are helping others.”
