Seattle, Wa- After winning their last preseason game against the Oakland Raiders 17-13 Thursday night, the Seattle Seahawks went ahead on Friday and traded away their veteran WR Jermiane Kearse to the New York Jets and picked up Sheldon Richardson and a second round pick. Later in the evening, the Seahawks gave Tramaine Brock away to the Vikings for a 7th round pick.
Brock was acquired by the Seahawks a few weeks ago after charges were dropped for a felony domestic charge that was pending. He was excited to come over and start over fresh, but the Seahawks decided to trade him today to take a risk on a 7th round pick. With all of these changes and roster cuts on Saturday, it will be interesting to see who else will get traded or cut.
The Jets are happy with what they got from Seattle and Richardson is very optimistic with playing for the Seahawks.
“Another team wanted me,” Richardson told ESPN’s Josina Anderson. “Got to roll with the punches. I’m happy for the situation I’m in now. Fresh start.”I can’t wait to contribute on a defense with guys like that. I want to get out there and start on defense. That’s the plan.”We obviously think very highly of Sheldon,” Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said in a conference call with reporters. “We were positive with him, but we thought [the trade] was a good fit and a good value for what we’re trying to accomplish, both short and long term.”
The Seahawks’ defense has looked pretty good this preseason. They have not lost a step and they are getting some their key players back in the lineup. With Richardson in the lineup, the Seahawks look unstoppable. Last season Richardson recorded 62 tackles and have been a monster on the field, but off the field, he has gotten himself in trouble. Hopefully, the Seattle Vets could take him under their wing and guide him into more of a successful player. If he could dominate at his position, the Seahawks could go deep in the post season.
