Schwartz Let Go By Lions

Jim Schwartz has been fired as head coach of the Detroit Lions. Detroit finished the season by losing 6 of its last 7 games including a 14-13 loss to rival Minnesota yesterday.

Under Schwartz, Detroit was very undisciplined and it cost them games. This season Detroit was its own worst enemy being in the top 10 in the NFL in penalties and averaging just under 7 penalties per game. That falls on the head coach.

“The simple fact is that we have fallen short of the expectations of our ownership and those expectations are simple. They, very strongly, want to bring a consistently-winning football team to the fans of the city of Detroit” said Lions President Tom Lewand

After last season’s 4-12 record and now missing the playoffs this season, it was time to make a change in Detroit. Schwartz finishes with a 29-51 record as head coach and 1 playoff appearance in 2011 which was the Lions only winning season during his tenor.
