In two games between the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams, the two teams have played almost 10 full quarters against each other.
Headed into the fourth quarter, the 49ers seemed to have things under control with a 10-2 lead. Pinned deep in their own territory, disaster struck. Colin Kaepernick misplayed a snap and tried to knock it out of the end zone, unfortunately for Kaepernick, Janoris Jenkins pounced on the ball before it went out of bounds for a touchdown to bring the Rams to within two points. Sam Bradford hooked up with his tight end for a two point conversion and suddenly the game was tied.
The teams traded fourth quarter fields goals after that including a 53 yard strike by Greg Zuerlein at the gun to force overtime.
In overtime, the teams exchanged punts until David Akers lined up for what would be a 51 yard game winning field goal for the 49ers. Akers missed.
Just a few moments later, Zuerlein lined up for a 54 yard field goal to win the game with only :26 seconds left in overtime. Zuerlein nailed it and the Rams upset the 49ers.
Next week, the Rams (5-6-1) will travel to Buffalo to play the Bills, and the 49ers (8-3-1) will host the Dolphins.
