Matt Asiata Re-Signed by Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have re-signed restricted free agent RB Matt Asiata.

Matt Asiata appeared in 42 career games, making 10 starts in his first 3 seasons with the Vikings. The Utah standout joined the team as a rookie free agent in 2011, spending the opening week of the season on the practice squad, then was out of football until the 2012 offseason. In 2014, Asiata posted career-bests in starts (9), rushing attempts (164), rushing yards (570), rushing TDs (9), receptions (44), receiving yards (312) and TD receptions (1). Asiata’s 9 rushing TDs were tied for the 3rd-most in the NFL during the 2014 campaign and his 64 points scored was tied for the 9th-most points in the NFC for non-kickers. His 3 career contests with 3 rushing TDs are the most of any undrafted player in their first 3 seasons in the common draft era (since 1967).

Matt Asiata is one of three Vikings with multiple three touchdown games. Asiata has three touchdown games against the Eagles in 2013 and against the Falcons and Redskins last year. Asiata has a career yardage total of 745 rushing yards on 211 carries with 12 rushing scores, to go with has 327 receiving yards on 50 catches and another receiving score. Asiata split time with Jerick McKinnon after Adrian Peterson was suspended and sent away from the team. With doubts as to weather Peterson will be back next year, Asiata will continue to play a big part in the Vikings offense.
