Jermichael Finley is the second athlete to follow suit in his generous donating to the victims in the Boston Marathon. After Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola pledged $100 per reception and $200 for every dropped pass, Finley has raised the bar. The Packer tight end has tweeted that he will donate $500 for every pass dropped and touchdown.
If Finley follows through with his pledge, the Boston Marathon fund might be getting a nice check from Green Bay’s tight end. Jermichael Finley has had his fair share of drops in the NFL. Now it seems that a dropped pass will benefit more than just the Packers opponent that week.
Last season, Finley recorded seven drops with only two touchdowns. At $500 apiece, this adds up to $4500 in donated relief support. While Finley’s production was hampered by injury, $4500 is not exactly a sizable donation. Surely Finley would wind up donating more money than that, even if his totals should fall short of this mark. NFC opponents would hope a bulk of his donations come from the drops, but they should not be one-hundred percent disappointed if Finley hauls in a TD grab.
Up until this point, Finley’s drops only helped out the Packers opponent that week. Now, a drop (or TD) can make an impact beyond the scope of what is happening on the football field. For the sake of the victims, let’s hope that Finley is healthy and productive this season in Green Bay. Even if he doesn’t wind up donating a bank-breaking figure, Finley should be applauded for his charitable assistance in the matter.
