EJ Manuel had injured his knee on a third down play in which he was forced to scramble outside of the pocket. Manuel attempted to go out of bounds, but was hit by safety Tashaun Gipson.Gipson said he wasn’t trying to injure Manuel on the hit.
“First and foremost, it’s the game of football. Things like that happen,” Gipson said. “I definitely don’t intentionally try to hurt anybody. I wouldn’t dare do that. I’m not that kind of player. It’s the game of football. Our QB took a shot. Their QB took a shot. Not to say that we were trying to go one for one, but it’s the game of football. He’s running around on the sidelines. He could have gotten out of bounds. He didn’t. So it’s my job to bring the ball carrier down.”
Coach Doug Marrone said Manuel’s injury will be evaluated in the coming days. The Bills do not play another game until Oct. 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals.I saw him working out on the sidelines and thought we could get him back,” Marrone said after the game. “And then [the medical staff] shut him down.”
This could be a huge blow to the Buffalo Bills if Manuel is out of the line up; without EJ in the game, the Bills would lose that second dimension of the read option that has helped them throughout the season.
As of now, the training staff is monitoring EJ’s sprain day by day.
