Eagles Hire Six Coaching Interns

The start of training camp signifies one other thing in the National Football League and that is the hiring of coaching interns. One of the teams that is participating in it is the Philadelphia Eagles who on Thursday announced the hiring of six coaching interns.

As part of the Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship the Eagles announced that  Correll Buckhalter, William Fuller, Greg Lewis, Corey Peoples, Montae Reagor and Don Holmes will assist the Eagles coaching staff throughout training camp and preseason. Of the six, five interns at one point spent time with the Eagles.

Buckhalter was a running back in the NFL and played for the Eagles from 2001-2008. Buckhalter racked up 3,085 yards from scrimmage with 22 touchdowns and a 4.53 yards per carry average while with the Eagles.

Fuller played defensive end in the NFL for 13 years and recorded 100.5 sacks. Fuller played for the Eagles from 1994-1996 and recorded 35.5 of those sacks

Lewis, who was a wide receiver, signed with the Eagles in 2003 as an undrafted free agent. Lewis spent six of his eight season with the Eagles and recorded 152 receptions and 1,992 yards receiving and eight touchdowns.

Peoples, who played defensive back, signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2005 and went through training camp with the team. Peoples also played in the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts from 2007-2009.

Reagor played on the defensive line in the NFL for eight seasons with his final being with the Eagles in 2007. Reagor also played for the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts in his 99 game career where he recorded 17 sacks

The only person not to spend any time with the Eagles is former NFL wide receiver Don Holmes. Holmes played ion the NFL for five years all with the Cardinals. In Holmes first two years the Cardinals were located in Saint Louis and then in 1988 move to Pheonix.

According to the announcement, the Walsh Fellowship is a program that all 32 NFL teams participate in each year. The program’s goal is to use each team’s training camp and preseason to give talented minority coaches opportunities to observe, participate, gain experience, and seek full-time employment as an NFL coach. Mike Caldwell and Duce Staley are the latest participants of the program to be added to the Eagles full-time coaching staff.
