Cowboys Look to Rebound From Loss to the Broncos

The Denver Broncos have now improved to 5-0 this NFL season.  They now join the New Orleans Saints and the Kansas City Chiefs as the only undefeated teams left in the NFL. In this contest Peyton Manning completed 33 of 42 passes for 414 yards and 4 touchdowns.  He also rushed for one touchdown which was his first in five years.

Tony Romo finished the game with 5 touchdowns and 506 passing yards.  Romo was easily having the best game of his career up until late in the fourth quarter.  He was on pace to break Norm Van Brocklin’s single game mark of 554 passing yards in a single game.  All of his good fortune took a turn for the worst with his late game interception to Bronco’s linebacker, Danny Trevathan with the game tied at 48.

This mistake ultimately proved to cost the Cowboys the game.  Peyton Manning proceeded to methodically lead his team down the field.  Knowshon Moreno picked up a critical first down on 2nd and 1 and was able to stay short of the end zone to keep the clock running on the Cowboys.  The Broncos did not want to score a touchdown and give Tony Romo time to drive down the field to score.  The plan worked to perfection for the Broncos.  Peyton Manning was able to run the clock down to two seconds, which led to the game winning field goal by Matt Prater.

This has become familiar territory for Tony Romo.  In the last eight games that Tony Romo has thrown a fourth quarter interception the Cowboys have gone on to face defeat.  Romo seemed to have an interesting perspective following the game.  “Leave everything on the field and just try to win these football games,” Romo said.  “It’s just disappointing when you don’t.  We had a chance against as good as a football team as there is.”

Some will argue that Romo is to blame for the loss.  Others will claim that the Cowboys’ defense did not pull their weight.  There are some bright spots as far as the Cowboys’ performance goes.  Despite the loss the Cowboys are in a tie for first place with the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East with a 2-3 record.  Romo is also just the 15th quarterback in NFL history to pass for 500 yards in a single game.

It is still early in the season and the Denver Broncos look like legit Super Bowl contenders.  Meanwhile, things look up in the air with this heartbreaking loss for the Cowboys.  Tony Romo and the Cowboys will have to shake off his late game mistake and get ready for a home game against the Washington Redskins next week.  How they respond could make or break their season.
