Excitement filled the stands of Heinz Field Saturday as the Pittsburg Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs gave us a thrilling overtime game. Both teams looked to capture their first preseason win, but the Chiefs ended up prevailing as they took the game 26-20.
The Chiefs kept quarterback Alex Smith in for the entire first half as he passed his only touchdown right before halftime to Junior Hemmingway to tie the Steelers 10-10. Smith also went 17-24 with 158 yards. Rookie Knile Davis made an electrifying 109-yard kick off return to keep Kansas City in the game during the 3rd quarter. However, Chase Daniel was the hero of the second half and overtime for Kansas City as he led the chiefs to a field goal during the 4th quarter, and drove the Chiefs to a game winning touchdown drive in overtime. He also led the team in rushing with 45 yards.
The Steeler Offense looked good early, as they got to an early 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Ben Roethlisberger had one touchdown and went 13-19 off 166 yards. Back up quarterback Bruce Gradkowski also had a good night, having one touchdown and going 8-17 with 115 yards. Veteran Felix Jones lead in rushing tonight for the Steelers with 29 yards off of 8 attempts.
The Steelers and Chiefs battled back and forth Saturday in a very even game where the Chiefs ended on top. Next week Kansas City heads back home to play the Green Bay Packers (1-2) and Pittsburgh will continue to seek their first win against the Carolina Panthers.
