As Peyton Ponders, Attention Shifts to Flynn, Other FA QBs

While Peyton continues to think over the options in his own personal Final Four, the attention has shifted to the other free agent quarterbacks, who seemed to have gotten lost in the Peyton World Tour.

The Miami Dolphins are believed to be trailing in the Manning Sweepstakes and a longshot to land the future Hall of Famer.  They had to enlist their Hall of Famer, Dan Marino, to call Manning just to get a meeting, in an attempt to counter the Elway star power in Denver.  With Manning starting to slip between their fingers, the Dolphins have turned their attention to Matt Flynn.

Free Agent QB Matt Flynn

Flynn, the backup to Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay with two starts under his belt the last two years, was considered the QB prize of free agency until Manning broke loose.  Flynn’s record-breaking performance in this season’s finale, when he threw for 480 yards and 6 TDs, got lots of attention around the league.

Flynn flew to Seattle to meet with the Seahawks on Thursday night, who are believed to be the primary competition for Miami.  From there, it is believed he will make Miami his next visit.

But the Dolphins have one ace up their sleeve – their head coach Joe Philbin was Flynn’s offensive coordinator in Green Bay, and has an inside track on how best to continue Flynn’s development into a starter.

The Browns are also believed to have reached out to Matt Flynn, so stay tuned.

In other free agent QB news, the Denver Post is reporting that Brady Quinn will visit the Jets on Friday and explore a role as a backup to Mark Sanchez.  Although if Manning signs in Denver and Tebow is traded, it is believed that Quinn might stick around in Denver to back up Manning.

Chad Henne is reportedly also coming to both Seattle and to the Jets for a visit.

Kyle Orton signed with the Cowboys, and will back up Tony Romo, which gives the Cowboys a very solid and experienced number two quarterback.  Jason Campbell signed with the Bears, and will back up Jay Cutler.
