With the seventh pick int he second round of the NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans selected UCLA linebacker Akeem Ayers.
Analysis: Having pulled the shocker of the first round by taking Jake Locker at No. 8 overall, the Titans go back to the defensive side of the ball and get a first-round talent who dropped into the second. Always strong on the defensive line, Tennessee has neglected the linebacker position in recent years. Ayers played there in college, but it remains to be seen where he’ll make his biggest impact in the pros. He wasn’t a pass-rush specialist at UCLA and his more likely to help against the run. Teams passed on him for fear that he wouldn’t be a three-down player.
Alum: Former Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse announced the pick of Ayers.
