With the eighth pick in the second round of the NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected North Carolina linebacker Bruce Carter.
Analysis: Bit of a stretch, especially considering the Cowboys’ greater needs on the lines and in the secondary. But Carter was a special kind of athlete at North Carolina before blowing out his knee last year, and Dallas must see high-ceiling potential and good value here. They also may be planning a big free-agent push for cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha to address the secondary issues.
Alum: Former Cowboys defensive lineman Charles Haley announced the pick.
