Cardinals Surprise, Take Ryan Williams at 38

With the sixth pick in the second round of the NFL draft, the Arizona Cardinals selected Virginia Tech running back Ryan Williams.

Analysis: An odd pick, given Arizona’s need at quarterback and the fact that they picked Beanie Wells in the first round two years ago. But Wells hasn’t panned out, and word around the league is that the Cardinals plan to address their QB need with a veteran once the free agency and trade season finally opens. So they add to their depth in the backfield by making Williams the second running back taken in this year’s draft behind Saints first-rounder Mark Ingram.

Alum: Former Cardinals safety Aeneas Williams announced the pick of Williams.
