NFL Prospect Jeffery Simmons tears ACL

Seattle, WAMississippi State’s defensive tackle Jeff Simmons tore his ACL during a practice drill on Tuesday. Simmons was projected to go high in the NFL draft and with this type of injury, his stock may have gone down. “If it is in God’s will, no matter which team drafts me this April, I will work extremely hard to get healthy and become a leader in that organization,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Simmons was projected to go 12th in the first round, but since his injury, a lot of scouts feel that his stock has decreased and he may get picked up by a team that is desperate and need of a DT. Simmons said that he would get surgery and start the rehab process as soon as possible. He recorded 58 solo tackles, assisted on 105 tackles, and averaged 33.0 yards a loss in his three years at Mississippi State.

Off the field, Simmons had gotten himself into some hot water after an incident in which video showed him hitting a woman. He eventually pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and was found guilty of malicious mischief.
