Seattle, WA- NFL Hall of Famer Gino Marchetti passed away at the age of 93. Marchetti was known for his defensive ability on the field as he spent the majority of his career with the Baltimore Colts. Marchetti’s hard work, dedication, and devotion led him to an impressive and dominating career. He was selected for All-NFL nine times, selected for 11 Pro Bowls and was named the top defensive end of the NFL’s first 50 years.
Here is a statement that the Hall of Fame President David Baker made honoring Marchetti. “Gino Marchetti dominated the football field during his career in the 1950s and ’60s as a leader of the great Baltimore Colts teams of that era,” Hall of Fame President & CEO David Baker said in a statement. “His ferocious style of play defined the character of a man who possessed a strong desire to succeed, passion, and determination that made him a great teammate. Those same traits made him a highly successful business leader after his playing days. The legacy of Gino Marchetti’s well-lived life will forever be preserved in Canton, Ohio to serve as an inspiration to future generations of fans.”
Not only was Marchetti a Hall of Famer playing pro football, but he was an American hero. Before his feet touched the field, as a football player, he was protecting the United States. He served in the Army during World War II and said that his experience in the Army was life-altering.
