The North Team wrapped up day two of practice at the Senior Bowl today. They went in full gear and it was good to see some contact during practice. As expected, a few of the guys seemed to settle into the new environment and had solid practices. Today was a good day for the defensive backs. There were a few players that jumped out during one on ones. The quarterbacks threw the ball better today. East Carolina quarterback Shane Craden improved today and made some nice deep throws in one on ones.

Standout Performers

Nebraska RB Ameer Abdullah stood out today. He was one of the only running backs that finished runs. He has a little pop running inside the tackles and was able to find a crease to break through the line. Abdullah finished one run on the sideline with authority as he drove into Utah defensive back Eric Rowe.

Miami-Ohio CB Quinten Rollins looked good in one on ones. He showed his ball skills on one rep during one on ones against speedy Ohio State wide receiver Devin Smith. Smith ran a double move and Rollins broke down well then ran step by step with him. He was able to locate the football and high pointed but didn’t pull down the interception. It was clear that he was getting his confidence and settling in well. Small school guys typically have very good practices on the second day.

Arizona State DB Damarious Randall is a guy that looked good today. He showed good movement in open space and ran with receivers well during one on ones outside at corner.  He walked down from the safety position and covered the slot receivers.

Duke Center Laken Tomlinson held his own against Washington defensive tackle Danny Shelton. He bends pretty easily for a 325 pound guy. He got a good initial punch against Shelton.

Hobart Guard Ali Marpet competed well during the inside period of practice. He also finished plays very well. There were a few long runs by Abdullah in which he made a block down the field to help. Marpet seems to be able to move pretty well.

USC ILB Hayes Pullard continues to excel in coverage. He runs like a safety and has no problem sticking with running backs out of the backfield. The pads went on today and he did not hesitate to mix it up. He blew up the running back on one play during the team period.

Duke WR Jamison Crwoder once again did well against the defensive backs. They are having trouble getting a hand on him during press coverage. He made a very nice one hand catch on the sideline during team period.

Random Notes

Washington DE Hau’oli Kikaha showed pretty good change of direction skills. He will be an edge rusher but will need to be able to drop into coverage as well. He showed that he has the physical ability to do that in a few of the linebacker drills today.

Pittsburgh OT T.J. Clemmings looks a lot like D’Brickashaw Ferguson as far as body type is concerned. He has very long arms (85 inch wingspan) and is one of the top prospects at the Senior Bowl.

Wahsington State WR Vince Mayle is a big receiver that uses his size to his ability. He literally threw Quinten Rollins down when he ran a comeback route during practice.

Baylor WR Antwan Goodley didn’t take many reps in practice today. He didn’t show any signs of being injured after practice. Goodley dropped a tunnel screen pass that was thrown to him. When he was lined up during practice, he was lined up on the outside.

Stanford WR Ty Montgomery made a few deep catches. He beat USC CB Josh Shaw on a deep throw during one on ones. He also dropped a few passes and it seemed to bother him. He will need to make sure that he doesn’t allow a drop to carry over to the next rep.
