The Dolphins have been training hard and seeing great progress. Ryan Tannehill has been working on moving around the pocket in a more efficient manner and is becoming more comfortable with an offensive line that has recently experienced change with the loss of Jake Long. Joe Philbin is pleased with the young QBs progress as he continues to master the offense.
This season the Dolphins are trying to run an up-tempo style of offensive play. This will only be possible if Tannehill and his offensive go-to players can establish first downs and cause the defense to struggle with coverage. Philbin understands that ”it is really difficult to do if you have a lot of three and out (drives). It’s tough to establish that type of tempo.” Which is why they will continue to drill the offensive unit during practices.
Mike Wallace, Miami’s new star receiver, has been working with Tannehill to develop the chemistry needed for the Fins to win games. As a veteran wide receiver Wallace knows his main purpose on the offense is to score points. He stated that he is out to “be a leader” and “lead by example”. And he shows up to practice ready to work, pushing himself to run his routes smoothly and effectively.
For the defensive unit, Brent Grimes, the Dolphin’s newly acquired DB, has impressed his teammates. Cameron Wake has nothing but good things to say about his teammate. He is pleased “seeing the things that (Grimes) does out here” and is simply “amazed, a guy coming off of an injury last season can put forth such effort”. As for Wake himself, he is trying to become an every down defensive player. In the past, Jason Taylor and Joey Porter were the guys on the field every down making plays, which is what Wake intends to do. He goes into practice with the mentality of working hard and is looking forward to getting more than 15 sacks this upcoming season.
Joe Philbin set up a meeting for the next month of practices where he will discuss the expectations for the team. He is “going to review what (they) accomplished during the offseason program” and then discuss “the responsibility and accountability of being a Miami Dolphin 365 days a year.” Practices will continue to run up until the season’s start where hopefully the Miami Dolphins will be prepared for their opener versus the Cleveland Browns.
